From its humble beginnings using a 32 card deck, poker has evolved into a number of different variations. Texas Hold'em has become the most popular form in the world today. However, there are still some other forms of poker that are highly popular such as 7 Card Stud, Omaha, and 5 Card Draw. Naturally there are many other forms such as Caribbean Poker but these three (along with the hi-lo variation) together with Texas Hold'em are by far the most widely played forms of poker.
It really comes down to preference as the basic principle is the same. 5 Card Draw is often played over the table where the Dealer has the option to spice up things by introducing variations such as Jokers Wild, deuces wild and so on. The Hi-Lo variations is a bit more complex as not only do you have aim for the best possible hand but also take into account the lowest possible hand according to the game's rules. It adds a whole new dimension to the strategy required. 7 Card Stud (and in particular high stake games) is a game more suitable for those with large bankrolls as there are FIVE betting rounds rather than the more usual three. This can make it extremely expensive to call to see the 7th card. |
