POKER
ROOM REVIEW - POKERCHAMPS |
 |
Pokerchamps
is a relatively new poker room with two of the founders being
the legendary quad WPT champion Gus Hansen and the Swedish
poker-wiz Erik Sagström. At the moment only Texas Holdem
Limit and No Limit and Omaha Pot Limit are available. However,
Omaha Hi/Lo and Seven Card Stud are in the pipeline. As Pokerchamps
uses proprietary software (rather futuristic) and is not part
of a network, the software is unique to Pokerchamps and the
player volumes at the moment are fairly low as it is a new
poker room. However, Pokerchamps has the potential to become
a serious poker room contender with advanced software and
functionality.
The games are loose. One of the most attractive features
is the Rakeback (CashFlow) loyalty programme whereby you as
a player receive cash back based on the number of raked hands
played. The rakeback is between 5% to 50%!!! The more you
play, the higher rakeback percentage tier you move up to.
However, the downside is that you have to start from scratch
every week and very hard to reach the 50% level.
Player volumes is fairly low at the moment with often less
than 1,000 players logged on at any time. The cash games have
at the moment more players than their tournaments. Excellent
software for those that like to play at more than one table
like their 2, 4 or 6 player table interface. |

supports the following forms of poker:

POKERCHAMPS
- INTERFACE |
| Pokerchamps'
software is very fast and reliable with a nice clean design.
The software takes some getting used to but once you have familiarised
yourself with it, it is very user friendly with a lot of table
and player information. It is easy to switch between various
features but at first it is a bit confusing. However, all in
all, PokerChamps is clearly targeting the serious poker player.
The playability is high quality with excellent player features
such as extensive player note taking facility and player stats.
You can also play up to six tables simultaneously very easily
with the 6 player table option when you log on. When you log
in you have the option to choose from SingleTable, EnlargedTable,
DuoTables, FourTables (4x4PokerPlay), and SixTables mode. In
order to use the 'four-in-one-screen feature' you need a screen
with at least 1152 x 864 pixels and to play six tables you need
1600 x 1200. PokerChamps provides its players with information
for each table regarding 'viewed flop percentage', average pot,
and hands dealt per hour. |

POKERCHAMPS
- PLAYER TABLES |
The
only real complaint with the player tables is that they are
rather on the small side. Luckily for those that like to play
at more than one table simultaneously, there is the excellent
2, 4 and 6 table modes. This is critical as the buttons are
set very close together and easy to misclick if you are in
a rush. Excellent player notes function, player note facility
and easy to switch between lobby and table. Everything is
colour coded to assist you when you play. Somehow the player
tables seem to be geared for those that are accomplished Internet
poker players. Definitely potential to become one of our favourites.
Some of the larger poker networks such as Prima Poker and
Cryptologic could learn a thing or two from the interface
of Pokerchamps. |

Only
Texas Holdem No Limit and Limit as well as Omaha Pot Limit
supported at the moment. However, Pokerchamps will introduce
Omaha Hi/Lo, 7 Card Stud and 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo in the near
future. Currently, there are no real high stakes tables and
most of the action is at the lower end. Almost no action at
all at the Omaha tables. With player volumes so low, it can
be difficult to find a game off peak. This is a shame as Pokerchamps
is a huge advancement over the more established poker rooms.
Hopefully, we can assist in improving the situation. |

POKERCHAMPS
- TOURNAMENTS |
Pokerchamps
has tournament traffic of around 1,000-1,400 real money players
during peak hours. Considering that they are a new poker room,
it is quite impressive traffic as they are not part of a network.
Clearly indicates that the volumes will grow quickly. |

POKERCHAMPS
- SUPPORT |
Pokerchamps
currently only offer e-mail support. In our tests, the response
times have been fairly quick and very helpful. We would still
prefer live chat and/or 24/7 telephone support. |
POKERCHAMPS
- LOYALTY PROGRAMME |
|
Pokerchamps
run the CashFlow or Rakeback scheme whereby frequent players
can receive a weekly rakeback of between 5% to 50%! depending
on number of raked hands played. Only negative is that you
have to start over every week and it takes nearly 24 hours
per day of play to get to the 50% rakeback (which is understandable).
However, this is a serious proposition for the serious poker
player! |
POKERCHAMPS
- MISCELLANEOUS |
|
If you want to test your skills against the best like Gus
Hansen, Pokerchamps
is the place to be. Whenever you see the Player name of GusHansen
at one of the Pokerchamps
player tables, it is the man himself, Gus Hansen! |

Amazing poker interface and
multi-table facility. Shame I couldn't try out the 4x4
or even the 6 table interface as my screen resolution
couldn't support them. However, impressed with speed,
reliability and player functions. Definitely a poker room
for the serious poker player. Shame I don't play seriously
anymore because PokerChamps would have been ideal for
how I used to play. Only drawback is that it is difficult
to find a game at the desired stakes as the player volumes
are still quite low. |
