POKER ROOM REVIEW - PACIFIC POKER

Pacific Poker has excellent Texas Holdem poker action at all times of the day with over 5,000 players at peak hours. Pacific Poker has become a favourite haunt for many Holdem players looking for very soft high-action tables and frequent promotions. No-limit and Pot-Limit tournaments have been launched now. There are plenty of lower stake action for beginners as well. The action at the other poker variants is fairly limited but at least there is some action there. Many other poker rooms have ZERO games at any of the other poker variants apart from Holdem. Pacific Poker offer several promotions with money added tournaments and freerolls.

Pacific Poker is part of the group behind the world's largest online casino - Casino-on-Net/888.com - so there are a lot of "wild" casino customers at the tables and thereby creating a lot of soft and "easy to make" money tables. Just as an example, the average pot at a full 10 player 5c/10c table is over $7 with approx. 50 hands player per hour. $7 average pot? We have seen many tables at other poker rooms at the $0.50/$1 stake tables showing $7-$12 average pot. Yup, wild and very, very loose action. The software is incredibly fast and has shown good reliability. However, in terms of user playability, it is not great and falls way behind others. There is no player note function, statistics is difficult to generate, action sometimes difficult to see, buttons rather small as are the cards. However, if you are looking for soft games and don't mind that the interface lacks all the poker tools, then Pacific Poker is ideal for you. Soft games, lots of action, high average pots for the stakes and plenty of hands per hour played.

PACIFIC POKER - INTERFACE

The Pacific Poker software is amongst the worst in the industry, although it has improved quite a bit in 2005. The interface is very basic with few options available for the player. Yes, it is quick, reliable but the rest falls way behind the industry leaders. Almost every decent poker room have player notes and/or statistics easily available apart from Pacific Poker. The graphics is definitely sub-standard. The only thing that saves Pacific Poker from being at the bottom half are the soft and juicy games. Short handed tables (6 players) have been added and now No Limit and Pot Limit. There is a hand history statistics function which enables you to play up your old hands. However, they still have a long way to go to compete in terms of software with the industry leaders.

PACIFIC POKER - PLAYER TABLES

The player tables need improvement. Can't find any player notes or player statistics function anywhere. The cards are rather small and graphics poor. There are no player avatars to ensure you can find your favourite seat or "lucky player". The player options are very limited. But worst of all, you can't play at more than one table at a time; so if you want to idle your time away at a cash game whilst playing in a tournament for example, it is IMPOSSIBLE! Chat function pops up in a new resizeable window which is quite handy but can be annoying if you are playing with a small screen.

PACIFIC POKER - RING GAMES

There are plenty of Texas Hold Em ring games at all times of the day. However, there are few players of the other forms of poker. But having said that, at least there is some action at Omaha and Seven Card Stud. Pacific Poker is for the Texas Holdem players who are looking for soft games, and in particular those that like No Limit and Pot Limit as they have just been added in December of 2005. That means that many of the players are relatively inexperienced to the finer points of these variants. Casino players playing poker who are new to NL and PL??? If this doesn't tickle your fancy, then you don't play poker to make money!

PACIFIC POKER - TOURNAMENT

Pacific Poker has a popular and strong tournament schedule with plenty of freerolls and guaranteed tournaments. A lot of qualifiers to the larger events with a particular focus on WSOP. The guaranteed tournaments make excellent value as Pacific Poker often have to contribute towards the prize fund and thereby make it great value for the players. And the prize funds are pretty good with fairly low buyins.
