One of the biggest misconceptions among amateur gamblers surrounds those words - strategy and system - that they are the key to winning a fortune in the casinos. Nothing could be further from the truth. The reality is that casino craps and other games are based on statistical probablities - or, in layman's terms, ODDS
Regardless the system or strategy, there is no way to completely turn casino odds in your favor ... if there was, there would be no casinos.
The best we can hope for from a solid craps strategy or betting system is to reduce the casino edge and increase our odds of winning ... just remember that even the best strategies still leave the statistical probablities on the side of the House.
With that in mind, the craps systems and strategies presented here are centered largely around money management - that is, increasing the player's odds of taking home some of the casino's cash and reducing the probability that the casino will keep all of the player's money.
The best strategy is to get the best odds. The best odds in Craps are on the Pass/Don't Pass/Come/Don't Come bets, as the house has the smallest edge here (of about 1.40%). Other bets give the house odds that are too high, such as:
| BET |
HOUSE
EDGE |
| The Field |
5.6% |
| Big 6/Big 8 |
9.1% |
| Horn |
12.5% |
| Craps 2/Craps
12 |
13.9% |
| Any 7 |
16.7% |
The way to improve these bets is by either "buying odds" or "laying odds". These bets are placed in addition to your first bet, after the Come Out Roll. They improve your first bet, because the house doesn't take any edge on Odds. You're just betting on the dice.
