CARIBBEAN STUD POKER RULES

Caribbean Stud Poker is a fun game to play but with a house edge of over 5% it is not a great returner. The rules of Caribbean Stud Poker are simple:

  • Play starts with the player placing a starting wager, called the 'ante' plus optional side $1 progressive side bet
  • Each player is dealt a 5 card, face up hand. Sharing information with other players is not allowed.
  • The dealer gets also 5 cards, but 1 card is face up, the other 4 cards are face down
  • The players must then decide whether to stay or to fold. If they fold, they forfeit their ante. If they stay, they must add a further bet equal to twice the ante ('the raise').
  • Once the players have made their choices, the dealer reveals his other four cards.
  • Now, for the game to continue, the dealer must qualify (have a minimum Ace and King poker hand). If the dealer doesn't qualify, players still in the game win even money on their ante and the raise is pushed (i.e. returned to the player - no win no lose).
  • If the dealer does qualify, then the player's and dealer's hands are compared and the highest wins (applying normal poker rankings).
  • If the dealer qualifies and beats the player both ante and raise wil lose.
  • If the dealer qualifies and loses to the player then the ante will pay even money and the raise according to the table shown below.
  • If the player and dealer tie both ante and raise will push
  • The progressive side bet will be entirely based on the poker value of the player's hand. Various pay tables are available.
