BINGO

It's interesting that one of the least socially stigmatised forms of gambling happens to be a game that is very close to nothing but a random gamble. There will only be one overall winner which is the house or the bingo hall. However, for a small outlay it is possible to win a decent prize but it is the same with a lottery or keno. A random numbers game where the odds are hugely against the players. The real difference with bingo is if it is played live is that it is a social event with a group of friends or the possibility of meeting likeminded individuals. It is very popular with the elderly.

The worst of the goofball systems hucksters try to make the case that bingo can have a winning strategy. This is nonsense. Numbers are chosen randomly, and numbers are on the bingo cards at random. The game is nothing but an exercise in hoping to get lucky -- and of course socializing. To say the least, there is no such thing as "a good bingo player".

A tiny amount of skill is possible if a bingo hall has "loss leader" or promotional nights. The concept is similar to slot machine jackpots or huge lottery prizes. Unlike those however, which are common, overlays in bingo are so rare that they are barely worth mentioning. Perhaps the most significant exception would be at a bingo hall where the last game of the night pays an artificially higher payout.

If the bingo hall has been essentially keeping all the earlier prize pools artificially small so that they could have an artificially higher jackpot at the end of the night, with the aim of keeping players there all night long, then it could potentially be a good, skillful bet to play that last game. But to do this as a deliberate strategy I'd think that you would have to have no life whatsoever...
